Youtube videos that must be destroyed

January 31, 2010 Leave a comment

I love watching Youtube videos, especially the ones I can’t access locally on our television, like wrestling. There are a lot of gems and never seen locally shows that scattered all over Youtube and other similar sites like Dailymotion.com and Veoh.com. Since Youtube is a submission based site, there are a lot videos uploaded by people who either got dropped on the floor when was still a baby or just want to have their crap broadcast to the world. Here are the Youtube videos that are in need of being run over by a bulldozer.

Unboxing videos
Why do we need to see you unboxing something? A bragging right of some sort of acquiring said equipment? Unboxing videos are on top when something big  released in the market.

Someone staring at the camera for few seconds
So…. you uploaded a video of yourself staring at the camera…. yeah… what now? This kind of videos, mostly girls staring at the camera, is a treasure for lonely people who wants to do the deed while staring on this videos.

Reviews from “professional” underaged people who has fetish for constant swearing
Ever since their parents gave them a computer with a webcam and mic tandem, they uses the medium of video to do reviews of anything under the sun as long as they can swear. This videos sprout like there is no tomorrow after a big event happened like a pay per view or some guy unveiled something on public, like the recent presentation of Apple iPad.

Scenes from movies, with different audio
Youtube is a haven for movie fanatics, you can practically find all the memory scenes of famous movies and watch it over again. Still, there are some assholes who will upload famous movie scenes, and with their professional video editing wisdom, instead of retaining the video original audio, they will replace it with something different, mostly emo music.

Videowhores, the video version of camwhores
We all know camwhores can do, but how bout in moving version? And with audio? They are just… doing whatever they usually do like walking to the market, crying over something and dancing in their underwear while listening from some foreign pop songs. It’s like a video blogging or some sort, but more annoying and pointless.

Chopsuey edited fan made videos
Videos with bad choice of background music, abuse of unnecessary transitions and overall bad mashed up of videos. These kind of videos are mostly associated with animations especially anime.

Announcements via a static text, but in video format.
It’s pointless to place an announcement or note via a video if you are only using a plain color background and a static text, and lasting around 10 seconds at the most. Sometimes they will place a single still photo in the background with a text that does not contrast with the background photo, it’s a pure headache generator. If they are going to announce something why not place it in their channel page or somewhere else because those asshole are just wasting a precious video space.

Playing through a game… with commentary
I like watching people playing videogames on youtube, only if there is no commentary from the uploader. It wrecks the overall experience watching the video especially if the commentator sounds someone got headbutted on their balls.

Youtube Poop
I have nothing to say… except there are big piece of diarrhea stricken monkey crap.

Online streaming videos is one of the best breakthroughs of the internet and hopefully this crappy videos will disappear permanently by shoving all the hardrives packed with the videos up the original uploader asses.

Top Twelve: Games on every gaming consoles and a portable system I had.

January 15, 2010 Leave a comment

Playing video games is one of my favorite hobbies of all time ever since the first time I watched someone playing a Nintendo Family Computer, the Asian counterpart of Nintendo Entertainment System or NES. I can still remember the times that I kind of mesmerized of awesome graphics of Super Mario Bros which in this day is still one the best games I ever played.

I had 2 Family Computers, both died in span of two years. Later I remember reading an old Gamepro magazine and have the immensely popular Street Fighter 2 in the cover. The magazine mentioned that Street Fighter 2 will have a home port on a Sega Genesis I was awe and excited and begged my father to buy me a Sega Genesis. Around Summer time before entering my fourth year in elementary, my dad bought a Sega Megadrive (again, the Asian counterpart of Sega Genesis) with a game that later became one of my favorite franchises ever, Sonic the Hedgehog.

After graduating from elementary and before heading to high school, my awesome dad bought me a Sony Playstation console as his graduation gift. The Megadrive then was given away to a younger relative and I enjoyed the Playstation and this entire awe-inspiring 3D graphics.

One dead Playstation later, around college time, I got a Playstation 2, the original big one. Around those times the PS2 games were not yet being pirated because the pirate guys had a hard time cracking the DVD security. Games were expensive and I had to resort on saving thousands of pesos just to buy a game. Good thing around 2004 a modified PS2 consoles can now play the pirated versions of the games.

After college I am planning to buy a Playstation 3, but I can’t afford one. There are times that I can afford a Playstation 3 but the money I earned goes somewhere more important. Back in December 2008, after receiving a hefty bonus paycheck, I bought my new gaming fix, a Sony PS which I still carry around to till this day. I only play the PSP if I have absolutely nothing to do, kind of my personal time-wasting machine.

So I had a Family Computer (1989 – 1992), a Sega Megadrive (1993-1996), Sony Playstation (1996-2000), Sony Playstation 2 (2000-2005) and Sony Playstation Portable (2008-present). Here are my top 12 games for each gaming machines and a portable system I had.

The New Gearspeed Motorsports Project

January 10, 2010 Leave a comment

Around Thursday, my old college buddy, Kevin, who owns a motorsports shop in Muntinlupa asked me to overhaul his company website, which is http://gearspeedmotorsports.com.

I immediately agree to do the task even it has been years I coded a website, both through the wonders of Dreamweaver and a notepad. I browsed the website and the first thing I noticed is the site is one big flash file. I downloaded the site and it is a whopping 10MB. With today’s internet speed, a 10MB flash file loads in a faster pace but not immediately. Still, the site should load  because there are only 2 kinds of viewer of your site, the one who really in need to view your site even if it loads forever, and the other one who can click another site to view.

My challenge is to decrease the site size, so I suggested to Kev to have the site done in Dreamweaver and add some flash animations on each page banners. I designed the first layouts of his  site a while ago and already emailed to him. I hope Kev likes the layout, and good thing the deadline he provided is not urgent. Hopefully he approves the layout and I will start coding and author it within the week, after office work, that is.

Drama Crap

January 9, 2010 Leave a comment

Ever since the days of free television and no cable television on site, I love watching local TV shows, from comedy like Palibhasa Lalake to cheesy action series like Aguila. The only thing I despise about local television is the goddamn drama series. Ever since the early 90s, the Mara Clara days they are all freaking the same, predictable, cheap tear generator and awful. Here are some things I hate on Philippine Drama series

One dimensional characters
The writers should give complexity in the characters that can make the viewers attached to. Drama life does not consists of one pure good protagonist, with no other traits, and one bad antagonist, with no other redeeming traits.

Remakes
The writers are responsible to create fresh drama story, not adopt a popular Korean drama shows with theme songs that the fans sing but doesn’t understand what are the lyrics mean.

Cheap production values
The company is making millions from these horrible one-faced-expression actors; they should invest in better production setup and memorable locations.

Same old cast with terrible actors/actresses
They have load of deserving talented actors stuck somewhere in their building, yet the producers have a fetish on putting the popular but super horrible actors. It’s refreshing to see new faces for each show and not to put this horrible monkey turds strutting their agonizing stuff, which consists of one single facial expression for all scenes, whether it is a happy scene or a sad scene, the facial expression is still the same.

Everyone’s related to one another
Oh man, the main character is the son of the maid who is the mistress of the grandfather who has a sister that has 2 sons, and one of them is the long, lost relative of the second mistress of the father, who is a close friend of the main character and in the end, he learned that this guy was his baby brother. Got it? Good

Titles were usually “copied” from a song title
Can they create original title for the show and not pick a random song title from a fishbowl? If they can write long script then they can brainstorm the title

The storylines were darn long
It’s like the old cartoon Dragon Ball Z, these shows have tendency to have 3 to 4 episodes for one major storyline that can realistically be placed in 1 or 2 episodes.

Putting 3 or more separate storylines in one sequence.
There are some shows that tendency to place at least 3 separate storylines in on sequence. For example, story A will have a normal conversation scene, then abruptly, story B will enter the screen and does their conversation scene, then story C will be in the screen, even the story B doesn’t have a closure yet, including story A. Then another few seconds, story A will return, continuing their conversation from their first scene and jumps to story B, then to C, then to B, then to A in just one to two minutes of sequence. Its freaking annoying and sometimes confusing.

The Killer Staircase.
Whenever two people are fighting near a staircase, 100% of time someone will fall, usually one of the good guys, and 80% of time he will die from the fall. The one who died usually has something important that the protagonist must know, but he cannot anymore due to the murdering staircase.

Showing major spoilers in the next preview.
They should tease the viewer on what will happen on the next episode and not ruining it. For example, I remember a last segment of the local show showing someone aiming a sniper rifle to the protagonist. Of course, the viewer can’t wait for the next episode, will he be shot? Will he be able to escape this predicament? No, instead, they show on the preview, shown on the end of that episode, the protagonist on a different scene, unscathed and no mention of the sniper-aiming finale. The cliffhanger is useless. They should at least show the preview having the sniper shoot his gun, fade to black and that’s it.

140 High Blood Pressure

January 7, 2010 Leave a comment

My brother applied a blood pressure test on me and I got 140 and it is not a normal measurement.

I asked to have it measured because I feel wobbly for the past few days. I feel I am standing in the middle of  an earthquake. Even if I stand still or even seat still, there is an involuntary movement on some parts of my body, usually on my head.

Admittedly I have a very bad lifestyle, like I prefer cholesterol driven foods and not be active physically. I think I had better health when I am still commuting to work, I am more active at that time because I walk and move a lot, my weight is even lower back then.

I am now way overweight, eats a lot of junk food while watching television, I basically bum around the house after work since I consider this my relaxation period. Now, I want to change my lifestyle and I will try my best to cut down my blood pressure.

The basic remedies are the obvious ones like be physically active even in simplest form, as long as it can make you sweat and regulate the heart. Even walking around the park can do wonders and I will start with that. Eating healthy food is a must and I know this will be hard for me because eating is sometimes my outlet to stress. I will try to eat more on fruits and vegetables and less meat… and especially pork. I am a pork guy, I just ate Sisig few hours ago and probably that food triggered me to ask my brother, who is a doctor, for my blood pressure, its like “hey dude, stop eating me, you will have high blood”.

Stress.. well I know stress is part of life and I will  try my best to overcome stress both from work and personal life. Now I will focus primarily on setting everything right and have myself not fall to more deadly disease like stroke and heart ailment.

Wish me luck.
